Appleton TS 7459 from our historic and 250th Anniversary Heritage Collection. This cubed pattern was taken from the cover of an old account book carried under the name of Whitman and loaned to us by W. Sumner Appleton of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities in Boston, Massachusetts. This book dates back to January 18, 1808. However, it cannot be said when this pattern originated because English manufacturers of the early nineteenth century were reviving many of the textile imitations which had been popular from the fifteenth century to 1750.
