Whistler TS 7427 from our historic and 250th Anniversary Heritage Collection. This skillfully-drawn French medallion was named for James McNeil Whistler who lived in the old “Corner House” in Stonington, Connecticut. The handsome paper was found under several other papers in the back parlor of this home. 
 
The “Corner House” was owned by the great artist’s aunt, Mrs. Palmer, and was built in 1787 by Amos Palmer. This early nineteenth century paper was imported from France roughly twenty years after the house was built. Whistler first lived there between 1840-1842 when his father was building a railroad between Stonington and Providence, Rhode Island. He later returned to Stonington while his father was abroad.
